If Jarnail Singh is mentioned among Indian footballers, then Punjabi Gurcharan Singh Parmar's name is not unfamiliar to any football enthusiast. He has never represented the Indian team abroad nor played for the JCT-Club Phagwara to uplift the new talents. GS Parmar has excelled in his sportsmanship qualities from his home and played several matches at his home ground in Baddon village . He also became the Vice-Captain of Guru Nanak Dev University's team while studying at Nurur College. With great enthusiasm for sports, he joined the JCT-Club Phagwara in 1972. GS Parmar's remarkable play allowed him to shine in the Santosh Trophy competition from 1975 to 1988. During these years, he captained his team for six years, setting new records of victories. He also had the privilege of participating in the Asian Games in Bangkok in 1982 and the Delhi Games in 1982. In 1979, he played for the Indian team that went to Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai, becoming the highest-ranked player. In 1980, he represented India in the Mardaka Cup, King's Cup, and President's Cup held in Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangkok, and South Africa, respectively. He also captained the Indian team in a friendly match against Russia.

In 1982, GS Parmar led the Indian football team that participated in the Asian Games held in Delhi. It is worth mentioning that his contribution was not limited to just leading the team, as he was also honored with the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award by the Punjab government. Throughout his lifetime, GS Parmar's achievements were remarkable, and there was no period in which he did not progress further. As a master of the art of playing sports, this footballer worked as a guiding light for many emerging athletes, bringing brightness to their sporting careers. His commentary skills and expertise in the field of sports benefited numerous players who aspired to excel in their sporting endeavors. He had a keen eye for the qualities required to excel in commentary and playing, and he was able to identify and appreciate those qualities in individuals involved in sports. Whether on the field of play or in the commentary box, he left an indelible impression on people's minds. Regardless of the situation, he never underestimated anyone and always made the most of the opportunities that came his way.

In the Super Soccer Championship match, the Mapollo Club competed against Bombay (now Mumbai) under the Tata Motors banner. GS Parmar was a member of the Indian team that participated in the inaugural Nehru Cup held in Kolkata in 1981. He also went on a tour to South Africa in 1984 with the C.T. Despite achieving such milestones, he never boasted or indulged in self-praise. He always presented himself with love, respect, and humility. Unfortunately, the shining star of football's sky faded away on August 27, 2014, leaving behind a remarkable legacy.
