Surj Bhan, born in the village of Bariyan Kalan in the Hoshiarpur district, holds historical significance. He is currently serving in the border security forces as a commandant. He gained recognition for his exceptional skills in various national football competitions in India, and his performance in the All-India Police Games created a buzz. He is known for his respectful demeanor towards everyone and displays a spirit of camaraderie on the field, even when winning matches. His playing style reflects enthusiasm and mental composure. Coach Ali Hasan noticed these qualities in him and recruited him to play for the sports wing of the Government Senior Secondary School in Mahilpur. Subsequently, his football abilities soared to new heights. With hard work and dedication, he led the Khalsa College Mahilpur team to become champions in university competitions. This further solidified his reputation, and he was recruited into the border security forces. Surj Bhan's performance in different competitions allowed him to collect accolades. He tirelessly pursued excellence in various matches and continued to shine. His dedication to sports brought him success.

Suraj Bhan Handa has been a prominent figure in the field of football since 1993, and his team has consistently achieved top positions in various tournaments over the years. They won the championships in 1989, 1991, and 1993, and those victories still hold a special place in his heart. In these tournaments, his team successfully defeated formidable teams from India. His achievements include participating in 22 other tournaments where his team secured the 10th position in one, and the runner-up position in three.

Throughout these tournaments, Suraj Bhan Handa's team has won several prestigious trophies, such as the Durand Cup, the Air India Trophy in Kolkata, the D.C.M. Shield, the IFA Shield, the Independence Cup, the Federation Cup, the Governor's Cup, and the Bordoloi Trophy in Guwahati. They have also earned recognition at both national and international levels. In 1992, they organized a camp for the Indian team in Bangalore. Later, Suraj Bhan Handa became the chief coach of the Central Football Team and started working on refining their techniques. In 2014, he became the coach of the Senior National Team and played in the six-a-side tournament in India. In 2018, his team achieved second place in two tournaments and secured third place in two others. From 2014 to 2018, they won three out of the top five tournaments and were runners-up in two.

Besides his achievements, Suraj Bhan Handa's team has participated in 39 tournaments in total, securing the first position in three and being runners-up in six.

Suraj Bhan Handa's son, Gautam Handa, resides in Canada, while Siddharth Handa is studying in the twelfth grade here. Suraj Bhan Handa got married to Reena Handa in 1996, who played a significant role in achieving his life goals. Suraj Bhan Handa has also achieved remarkable accomplishments as a coach. As a result, in 2017, he obtained his first position in the department and brought glory to Mahilpur. He has also been honored by the Dr. Harbhajan Singh Club, Mahilpur. Currently, he is contributing to the coaching center in Bariar, where he is leading it with great success. The B.S.F. Jalandhar team has achieved success by defeating top-ranked Indian teams such as East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting, Dempo Goa, and Salgaocar in various competitions. Thus, in his playing and coaching career, he has achieved remarkable milestones. Football has always rewarded him with various advancements and accolades.
